Scouting Weekend at Clark's Trading Post and the White Mt. Central RRScouting Weekend at Clark's Trading Post and the White Mt. Central RR June 2 & 3, 2012

Clark's Trading Post in Lincoln, NH is celebrating the Boy and Girl Scouts with a special weekend full of discounts, presentations and fun! In addition to the rides and shows that Clark's has to offer, the scouts can participate in three different 90 minute presentations working towards badges and patches. All for one low price! The presentations have a limited amount of seating so book early to reserve your spot.

THE BEAR FACTS: Presented by Maureen and Murray Clark bear trainers and bear keepers. This presentation on black bears and their life cycle will include hands on information with the bear trainers at Clark's Trading Post. Presentations start at 10:30 & 1:30. The bear keepers will cover information on both our captive bears and the wild bears. They will discuss age, diet, habitat and birth of the black bears. There will be hands on artifacts for the scouts to touch and learn from. Discussions will cover how you can prevent bear problems in residential, agricultural or camping situations. They will also get a tour of the Clark's bears on display with a Q & A session. The presentation will end with a 30 minute black bear performance!

ALL STEAMED UP! Presented by Leon Noel steam enthusiast and locomotive engineer for over 40 years. Discover the world of steam power and steam equipment during this presentation at 11:30 & 2:30. You will learn the principles of steam, its uses in the industrial revolution, railroad development and even about steam powered automobiles. You will join in on a walking tour of steam equipment including two locomotives, a log hauler, a steam shovel and a steam fire engine. The session will conclude with a ride on the White Mountain Central Railroad with our 1920 wood burning steam locomotive.

NEW HAMPSHIRE ROCKS! Presented by Chris Englert Geologist. This geology presentation and tour of glacial formations will start at 12:30 & 3:30. The presentation will be an interactive walking lab exercise. All stops will include hands on participation and learning. Concepts introduced include the glacial history of the Pemigewasset River valley, the local water cycle, rock formation, and general geology-based terminology and research goals. Proper footwear for walking is recommended. The presentation will end with gemstone mining and identification.

Clark's is known for its lovable Trained Bears and Steam Train chased by the Wolfman but there is so much more to Clark's. Cool off on the Water Blaster Boats, ride a Segway or test your skills on the Climbing Tower. You may tour Merlin's Mystical Mansion or the Tuttle's Rustic House. Visit the five museum buildings and specialty shops on our Victorian Main Street such as the Candle Shop, Print Shop, Photo Parlor and Maple Cabin. We have our Snack Bar and Ice Cream Parlor open for you as well.
